Location: the Kasbah and Dar el Bacha areas are quieter and easy to reach by taxi. Deep-medina riads are magical but can mean a ten-minute walk with luggage.

Noise: ask whether rooms face the courtyard and whether there is a rooftop restaurant above your room. The best riads are silent after 11pm.
